Who Cares?
I have, so far, enjoyed this book. It is easy to read and goes real fast. In reference to what others are saying about the creativity of the author and his originality, I say, who cares? When I am reading a book, looking at a piece of art, or listening to music, I am not thinking about who should get what credit and who deserves what. If you are entertained, the product is therefore good. Like hip-hop, this book sample and borrows from a previous artist. And if you don't like it, so be it. But do not judge any kind of art off of who deserves what, judge it on whether or not you enjoy it or if it moves you.

I agree. The purpose of art is not to be different from everything that came before it (though that is a plus if it can be pulled off), but to entertain. Well, there is the "great art" that's just random crap thrown together, but in my opinion a good book is one that is enjoyable to read.
Max,
A short post (I would have enjoyed reading more!), but a very thoughtful one. I like your comparison of "sampling" (try to remember to bring it up in class. I think it's a useful analogy, and one that you might want to use in your next essay if you wind up defending Cunningham from Dee's attack (in the article we'll be reading next week).
Good post! Write more! (I like hearing your thoughts!).
